The Four Elements: Asked by many fellow Witches and Wiccans to produce sets of small paintings representing the 4 elements of earth, air, water and fire to decorate the quarters of their magick circles or perhaps temples. The elementals have their own symbols seen in the following paintings. Each element also represents a point of the compass, and points on the witches pentagram where they are joined by a fifth, aether (spirit). They have many correspondences, of which opinions differ. For their association with the Pentagram or Pentacle see my page here..

Elements set two
Element of Earth

The smallest canvases I had worked on this subject at the time (smaller would follow) these were a request from a friend to do for a charity auction, the poppy theme for Earth was inspired by agricultural 'land set aside' where they and other arable weeds thrive.

Correspondences: North, Pentacle, Brown, Green Gnomes and Boreas.

5 x 7 inch Acrylic on canvas

  Elements set three
Element of Earth

The ground from above represents Earth, this set is done in the most popular size of 8 x 8 inches, there have been many like it, they seem to be for people wanting them for Witches magick circles.

Correspondences: North, Pentacle, Brown, Green Gnomes and Boreas.

Element of Air

Air is represented by a Tornado, and the lightning that usually comes with it reminds us the air is charged, a powerful combination. I love painting extreme weather!

Element of Fire

The Element of Fire is illustrated by what could be a metal workers forge, whose patron deity is the Celtic fire Goddess Brighid.

Correspondences:  South, Wand, Red, Salamanders and the Notus.

Element of Water

It is a very feminine element; the fluctuations of the tides are caused by the pull of the Moon, its ruler.  Here a wave  breaks as it arrives ashore.

Correspondences: West, Chalice or Cup, Blue-Green, Undines, and Zephyrus.

Faces of the Elements

An usual painting within this topic for me in that all four elements were put into one image. Asked by colour therapist and author from Germany of a children's book I was illustrating to basically put a face to each of the elements I produced this. Alas a new approach was taken as it was reasoned a face to the element of fire would always be to scary for very young children! Therefore I still have it to put here. The colours assigned to the elements are in the dividing lines.

  Set four
Element of Earth

The following set relies neither on colour or symbol to determine their place, the image itself makes that clear, painted for a Druid friend in America I was asked to paint the Awen symbol of Druidism on each instead of elemental symbols. The English chalk  carving the Longman of Wilmington in a thunderstorm makes a very pagan theme!

Correspondences: North, Pentacle, Brown, Green Gnomes and Boreas.
