Another early painting from years ago that I recently run into, reedmace (cattail)and reflections on water were a favorite topic those days, somewhat influenced by Monet, about 1990. This painting done on canvas board was inspired by the lake by the schloss in Wickrath, a suburb of Monchengladbach in Germany were I lived for many years as a boy, I had to work from memory alone though, so really it's not a proper portrait of that place.

Another early painting from years ago that I recently run into, reedmace  (cattail )and reflections on water were a favorite topic those days, somewhat influenced by Monet, about 1990. This painting done on canvas board was inspired by the lake by the schloss in Wickrath, a suburb of Monchengladbach in Germany were I lived for many years as a boy, I had to work from memory alone though, so really it's not a proper portrait of that place. The nearby schloss (a stately home, or palace) is the focus of that small town, it's extensive stables they claim were used by Napoleon as a stud farm (I won't mention his micropenis!) but there seems to be some doubt about it too. In my day the town had a large British community in the army and royal air force married quarters and early on a Canadian community too, with big bases like JHQ  Rheindahlen and RAF Wildenrath nearby. I loved this place myself , maybe I'll go back and paint it in situ.

10 x 14 inch Acrylic on canvas board, mounted on stained chipboard
